1. Can I Travel to China Now— China's Current Entry Policy
Though China has announced the quarantine-free policies for the travel after January 8th, 2023, the tourist visa is still suspended.Inbound tourism to China is still not feasible. Now there are three ways for foreigners to enterChina:
- Holding a valid Chinese residence permitfor work, study, personal matters, orreunion
- Holding a diplomatic, service, courtesy, or C visa
- Holiding valid APEC businesscards
- Applying for a new China visa (the previous visa will not be cancelled) — Z-, M-, R-, X1, Q-, and S-visas now are possible.
What to Do when You Get the Entry Permission
From January 8th, 2023, for all travelers, whether you are vaccinated or not, you're suggested totake onePCR test within 48 hours before departurea and only board the flight when your nucleic acid result is negtive.
If you transferthrough a third country to China, you can take onePCR test at the city of departure ORat your transferairport/city.
You are required to declare your negative test result to China Customs by filling the Health Declaration Form on the WeChat miniprogram of China Customs (scan the QR code below), or at the website, or via the China Customs APP.
Airlines will check out your proof of negative nucleic acid test before boarding the plane. China Customs will also randomly check it when you enter China. So we recommendyou prepare two hard copies (the airline may keep one) and one electronic copy.
The requirements of the proof of COVID-19 test:
- The name of the traveler, which should be exactly the same as it appears on the travel document used for the flight.
- It is recommended that the date of birth and travel document number also be shown on the proof.
- Time of the test or time of report issue(at least one of them should be within 48 hours before boarding)
- Testing method (which should be nucleic acid testing; antigen testing will not be accepted)
- Test result(which should be negative; 'uncertain’ will not be accepted)
- The name and contact details of the testing institution
- Be in the official language of the place of departure of your flight to China, or in English
- Be a hard copy

1. Can tourists go to China for travel after January 8?
If you want to enter China on a tourist visa after January 8, it is still notavailable. Z-, M-, R-, X1, Q-, and S-visasare possible.
2. If I hold a(long-term)L or 10-year, can IenterChina now?
No. Those holding certain visas (L or 10-yearvisas) issued before March 28th, 2020 may not enter China (even if vaccinated).
3. My family members (wife/husband, fiancée/fiancé...) are Chinese citizens and now in China. Can I enter China to visit them?
Probably yes. From June 20, 2022, Chinese embassies begin to accept Q and S visas' applications. You can check the latest and detailed information with the Chinese embassy of your country.
4. Can international students return to China yet?
Yes. International students can nowreturn to China.
5. I am from the USA/UK, and I have alreadybeeninoculated with a Chinese vaccine and hold a valid residence permit. I need to go back totheUSA/UK and return to China. Is thatok?

Hong Kong Entry Requirement
Travelers from overseas and Taiwanwill need a negative PCR test result before departure within 48 hours or a negative RAT test result within 24 hours. Quarantine is not required.
If you are travelling to Hong Kong from Chinese Mailandor Macau, there is no need for any tests.

3. China Visa Restrictions
From January 8, 2023, China restarted its visa-free policy. You can travel to China without applying a new visa if you qualify for visa-free transit policy.
Or you can also apply a new visa to China. Now the the types of visas you can apply for includeZ visa, M visa, Q visa, S visa,X visa, etc.As for detailed visa information andapplication service, pleasecontact your consulate/embassy/VAC.
1). Visa-Free Policy
Now tourist visa is still not available to enter China. But China now restarted its visa-free policy. If you meet the conditions, you can travel to China without applying a new visa.
The requirements of 144-hour visa-free policy:
- Passport holders from the 53 countries including USA, Canada, UK, Australia, France, Germany, Singapore, etc.
- You must be in transit to a third country or region (Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan are included). For example, USA–Beijing–Hong Kong is an acceptable itinerary for a 144-hour transit policy, but USA–Beijing–USA is not.
- You need a visa for the third country/region (if needed).
- You must stay within the permitted region and not travel out of it at all. For example, you can stay around Shanghai region like Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Suzhou, but you cannot make a trip from Shanghai to Beijing.

4). For Business (M-Visa &APEC Cards)
Method one: applying an M visa
To apply an M visa, you will need:
- A company invitation letter (to be handled by your business partner)
Method two: by APEC cards
If you hold a valid APEC business travel card, you can enter China with the card directly without applyinga new visa.
If your APEC business travel card is issued by the United States or Canada, you still need to apply a new visa.
5). For Study (X Visa)
To apply for a X visa, you will need:
- VisaApplicationforStudyin China (only for X1 visas) +Admission notice (original and photocopy)
If you hold a validstudent residence permit, you can enter China without applying a new visa.
4. China Quarantine Rules
From January 8th, 2023, passengers (whether vaccinated or not) are no longer required to quarantine upon arriving in China.
5. International Flights to China
China adjusted the restrictions on international flights to China. Passengers can takedirect flights or transfer to China.Multiple-transit flights are allowed. There are no requirements for the transfer route. Passengers can make their own choices according to their own situation and flight situation.
Where Can I Fly to China?
Flights are availableto China from Los Angeles, New York, London, Vancouver, Paris, Frankfurt, Sydney, and over 20 other cities, but they are very limited, for example:
- New York has flights to Beijing and Shanghai from October.
- Los Angeles has flights to Beijing and Shenzhenfrom September and to Guangzhou from August.
- San Francisco has flights to Shanghai from July.
- Dallas has flights to Shanghai from June.
- Seattle has flights to Shanghai from June.
- Detroit has flights to Shanghaifrom July.
- London has flights to Shanghai from July.
- Vancouver has flights to Shanghai, Beijing, Xiamen, and Chengdu from April, and to Guangzhou from May.
- Toronto has flights to Xiamen and Chengdufrom April, and to Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou from May.
- Paris has flights to Shanghai from September.
- Milan has flights to Tianjin from July.
- Frankfurt has flights to Jinan in August and to Shanghai from September.
- Sydney has flights to Shanghai from August and to Guangzhoufrom September.
- Amsterdam has flights to Xiamen,Guangzhou, and Shanghai from July.
- Helsinki has flights to Shanghai from August.
- Kuala Lumpur has flights to Guangzhou from June.
- Singapore has flights toto Xiamen in April and May, to Guangzhou from June, and to Shanghaifrom September.

Transfers in a Third Country
Tranferring in one or more countries is allowed.
For transfer passengers, you will only need to do one PRC test at your departure city orat the transfer airport/city.
For example, if you departure from New York and will transfer through Bangkokto China, you can choose to do a PCR test at New Yorkwithin 48 hours before departure. Or you can choose to do the PCR test when you arrive in Bangkok.
Note: If you choose to do the PCR test at the transfer airport, please contact the airport in advance to confirm whether thereare facilities for PCR testing.
6. What's the COVID Situation in China Now?
